Nelly Littlehale Murphy (1867-1945) was an American author, poet, and suffragist. She was born in Maine and attended Smith College, where she earned a degree in 1893. She went on to teach at various schools before becoming the headmistress of the Low-Heywood School in Stamford, Connecticut.
Murphy was an active supporter of women's rights and was involved in the suffrage movement. Her writing often addressed women's issues and she published several books of poetry and prose. Some of her notable works include "The Tree of Heaven" (1917), "The Belle of New York" (1928), and "The Women Who Came in the Mayflower" (1930).
In addition to her writing and activism, Murphy was also an accomplished artist. She studied painting in Paris and exhibited her work in galleries and museums throughout the United States.
Murphy died in 1945 at the age of 78. She is remembered as a talented writer and advocate for women's rights.
